Walking/Hiking

Due to our unique location at the foot of the Bluestack Mountains, guests can enjoy easy access to some of the best hill walking in County Donegal.


A total of 5 different walks are accessible within a 2km radius of Eas Dun Lodge. The walks vary in length & level of difficulty. Local walks include: Burns Mountain Loop, Famine Pot Walk, Island Road Loop, Ardnamona Wood Walk & Banagher Walk.

We are members of Donegal Walkers Welcome (Fáilte Ireland supported initiative), which promotes the region as a premier destination for walking holidays. At Eas Dun Lodge we have a number of options to facilitate walkers including: Packed Lunches, Walking Guide, Drying Room, Mini-Bus Hire, Walking Information & Maps. We welcome both small & large groups. 2/3 day packages can be arranged.

  • Cycling
  • The quiet country roads around Lough Eske are perfect for cycling. Bicycle hire can be arranged in Donegal.

  • Fishing/Boating
  • Lough Eske provides some excellent salmon fishing. Fishing permits & boat hire are available.

  • Glenveagh National Park
  • Glenveagh is a beautiful National Park in the Derryveagh Mountains. At the heart of the park lies Glenveagh Castle & its magnificent gardens.

  • Killybegs
  • Irelands biggest fishing port makes for a great day trip. Sea angling & boat hire can be arranged here.

  • Donegal has lots of blue flag beaches, with pristine strands that stretch for miles. Eas Dun Lodge is approx. 20mins drive from Rossnowlagh & Murvagh.

  • Eating Out/Entertainment
  • Eas Dun Lodge is just 7km from Donegal Town & 2.5km from Harvey's Point Hotel & Solis Lough Eske Castle. Donegal Town provides a wealth of fine restaurants, cafes & bars. The lively pubs provide traditional music & dance. Harvey's Point & Lough Eske Castle offer a wonderful dining experience.

  • Slieve League Cliffs
  • At over 600 metres in height, Slieve League is one of Europe's highest sea cliffs. The views are spectacular & stretch from Donegal Bay to Sligo & Mayo. Slieve League is a must-see for everyone visiting Donegal.
